Eversolar® UV-Curable Solution Boosts Perovskite Encapsulation

Industry Insights & News

The strategic partnership leverages Eversolar® UV-curable technology to enhance stability and commercialization of next-generation perovskite solar cells.

During Energy Taiwan 2026, Dr. Lai-Juh Chen, Chairman of Taiwan Perovskite Solar Corp. (TPSC), met with Mr. Chien-Shin Chen, Chairman of Everlight Chemical, to discuss next-generation photovoltaic materials and module applications.

As perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and organic photovoltaics (OPV) move toward broader commercial adoption, long-term device stability remains a key challenge. Moisture and oxygen ingress can cause material degradation, making encapsulation an essential part of photovoltaic device design.

To address these challenges, Everlight Chemical and TPSC announced a technical collaboration combining specialty chemical development with photovoltaic device fabrication and validation. Together, they are developing a UV-curable perovskite module encapsulation solution using Eversolar® PV encapsulants and adhesives, with a focus on low-temperature processing, protective barrier performance, and compatibility with different device architectures.

Eversolar® UV-Curable Encapsulation Supports Low-Temperature Processing and Adaptable Perovskite Module Design

Eversolar® perovskite UV-curable encapsulants support room-temperature curing and multiple encapsulation configurations, including edge sealing and blanket sealing. The collaboration brings material selection and device-level testing together to evaluate how these properties translate into practical perovskite module manufacturing.

1. Room-Temperature UV Curing Helps Reduce Thermal Stress on Perovskite Active Layers

Eversolar® UV-curable encapsulation adhesives offer rapid curing at room temperature, helping reduce the thermal load placed on heat-sensitive perovskite active layers during encapsulation.

Conventional EVA or POE film lamination processes used in crystalline silicon photovoltaics typically involve elevated temperatures. UV-curable liquid encapsulants provide an alternative processing route for perovskite devices where thermal exposure must be carefully controlled. By reducing reliance on high-temperature encapsulation, this approach helps limit the risk of process-induced damage. Device-level testing remains essential to confirm compatibility and assess power conversion efficiency (PCE) before and after encapsulation.

2. Liquid UV-Curable Encapsulants Support Small and Irregularly Shaped Modules for Indoor Energy Harvesting

Liquid UV-curable encapsulants offer processing flexibility for small-area and irregularly shaped photovoltaic modules used in indoor energy harvesting, self-powered IoT devices, and smart sensors.

For these applications, encapsulation films can present challenges in cutting, positioning, and lamination. Liquid adhesives can be dispensed or coated to suit different module geometries, providing greater flexibility in material placement and coverage.

The Eversolar® portfolio includes formulations with adhesion to glass and various plastic substrates. Formulation selection can be matched to the substrate, coating method, and module design, supporting the development of encapsulation processes for compact photovoltaic devices.

3. Eversolar® Perovskite Encapsulants Offer Formulation Options for Different Testing Requirements and Encapsulation Designs

The Eversolar® perovskite encapsulant portfolio includes high-transmittance and high-barrier formulations, providing material options for different testing requirements and encapsulation designs. The range supports both edge sealing and blanket sealing, with formulation selection guided by device architecture and manufacturing requirements. High-transmittance formulations address applications where optical clarity is important, while high-barrier formulations address specific protective requirements. Customers can select and evaluate suitable encapsulants according to substrate compatibility, moisture and oxygen barrier requirements, and curing conditions.

These formulation options support development and testing across indoor low-light energy harvesting applications, accelerated aging protocols, and different photovoltaic device configurations. By matching material properties to application and testing needs, the portfolio provides flexibility in developing encapsulation processes for next-generation photovoltaic devices.

4. Integrated Encapsulation Testing Supports Process Development for Perovskite Module Scale-Up

TPSC’s “Perovskite Hub Rapid Validation Platform” connects encapsulation material evaluation with device fabrication and electrical testing, supporting process development for larger-area modules and future automated production. The workflow covers dispensing, coating, PET lamination, UV curing, and electrical testing. Device performance measurements provide feedback on how material selection and processing conditions affect the encapsulated module.

Combining this feedback with barrier and stability testing helps the teams assess encapsulation performance at the device level. The results can guide adjustments to adhesive formulation, coating conditions, and curing processes as development progresses toward larger-area manufacturing.

5. Perovskite Module Prototypes Demonstrate Potential for Self-Powered IoT Devices and Sensors

Prototype samples demonstrate the potential of UV-curable perovskite encapsulation for self-powered IoT devices, environmental sensors, and consumer electronics. These applications require encapsulation materials that fit compact module designs and relevant substrate requirements. Prototype evaluation allows the teams to examine material and process compatibility under practical device configurations.

By linking encapsulant development with prototype testing, Everlight Chemical and TPSC are building a basis for further application-specific validation and the development of next-generation photovoltaic products.

Everlight Chemical will continue to develop Eversolar® Photovoltaic Materials in collaboration with device manufacturers and research partners. Through joint material development, process evaluation, and device validation, the company aims to support the commercialization of perovskite solar cells and other next-generation photovoltaic technologies.
